This was wonderful. And it reminds me of my profession, a fortune-500 semiconductor manufacturer, and our yearly self-assessment/focal/personal review process. The term “hornswogglery” sums up pretty nicely the process of writing one’s own performance review.

Performance reviews! Oh yes, we have those too. And then there’s the promotion and tenure process on top of that, which is when they decide whether or not they’ll keep us. I don’t know which one of these processes I like the least.
Once in a dead-end job I wrote down exactly what I thought for one of my performance self-reviews. I quit that job a few months later.
